H1 Text - Water & Civil Society

In the Middle East & North Africa, water affects everything. It has significant impacts on health, agriculture, and population. The Water & Civil Society program focuses on projects and initiatives that seek to improve water usage, health and sanitation of communities, and enhancement of grass root community engagement in decision-making and management. Civil Society organizations are critical to creating environmental social networks that enhance civil society communications and exchange of information on shared resources like water.


Two picture of Urumia Lake in 1984 and in 2011 demonstrate the impact of unplanned dam building in Iran. The third larges salt water lake, the Urumia Lake, has been devastated due to excessive dam building in Iran. This has impacted not only wildlife in the lake region, but also cities and villages in northwest Iran.
